BACKGROUND

Mountainous areas provide unique challenges to observing, modeling, and predicting weather and climate. The complex topography limits the feasibility and representativeness of measurements and induces local processes whose incorrect representation in numerical weather and climate models may negatively impact the model skill. At the same time, mountain regions are among the most sensitive ecosystems to climate change.

In this panel discussion we bring together experts in weather and climate sciences, observational data anlysis, and numerical modeling, to discuss these challenges and potential strategies to address them.
